MEET THE TEAM

DOCTOR AND CO-FOUNDER

Dr. James Stray-Gundersen is a world-renowned physiologist and physician sought for his expertise in maximizing athletic performance, nutrition, fitness and wellness, and BFR and altitude training. He is the co-author of the award-winning altitude study “Live High/Train Low,” which has proven to be the foundation of new paradigms in athletic training and is recognized by the US Olympic Committee (USOC) for its influence on human performance. He is a pioneer in Anti-Doping work, implementing the first invasive testing of athletes in 1989 World Championships in Lahti, Finland.  He is the developer of the “Safe and Fair Events, (SAFE)” anti-doping program implemented in 2002 Olympic Games, which is considered by many as the most aggressive program to detect and deter doping in sport.  Dr. Stray-Gundersen was part of NASA’s D2 Space Shuttle Mission where he worked directly with the astronaut team.  Dr. Stray-Gundersen has served on the FIFA Executive Committees to establish Altitude Recommendations for competition and performance.   

 

Dr. Stray-Gundersen continues his 30-year work with Alberto Salazar and The Nike Oregon Project (Olympic Runners), as well as overseeing numerous universities and advising their programs and is the director of altitude training for the US Athletic Trust.  He is the author of the National Federation of High School Coaches Certification Requirement Course (physiology and applied learning), which is now mandatory for all new high school coaches in many states. 

 

Dr. Stray-Gundersen also has a long history of international collaboration (Norway, Canada, Germany, etc.,) in various sports including distance running, track and field, swimming, alpine and nordic skiing, rowing, cycling, water polo, and more. He continues his work with many Olympic, professional, and collegiate teams and is the current sports science advisor to the US Ski and Snowboard Team.

With a strong foundation of practical knowledge, and years of experience using state-of-the-art modalities, Hollie will help you reach your own fitness and performance goals.
